NEW features in v1.0.4 (25.11.2009)

• Introduced a new "standard" encoding profile
• The new "standard"-profile is the result of a quality versus encoding time consideriation.
• The previous "standard" profile is named "quality" now.
• If you compare the previous standard- and new standard-profile only 40 % of encoding time is required for a 2-pass encoding
• Please note that video quality is slightly decreased with that change
• There's an SQL-statement provided in "database-changes.sql" if you want to continue with the previous standard-profile, please make use of that statement
• Added detection of videos with f4v format

This mod makes use of the x264 codec which is supported by Adobe flash since september 2007 with version 9.0.115. If you compare x264 with older codecs like h263 (flv standard), MPEG 2 (used for DVDs) or VP6 (also named On2) it is extremely powerful. Compression of x264 is so efficient that you can even stream HD videos (1280 * 720) at moderate bitrates.

Obviously this efficiency is the reason why the "tube market leader" Youtube has recently started to make use of that codec (also named h.264), too.

Basically the x264 modifications suggested here have been based on the work of Diego Massanti who has published it at his blog.

This is the seventh version of this mod and it is now the result of learning many lessons during one and a half year of experiences with x264 in my own ClipShare live system.
